How to teach and to learn Information Literacy
What does information literacy mean? In German the expression refers more to the practical application of the media. The term however in the Anglo Saxon countries embraces also the ability of functional reading and understanding of textual information, the background of information and the context of delivery as well as the control over search strategies in the library catalogues and on the internet.
The bilingual edition contains contributions from the daily life of librarians to gain information literacy in Germany, the United States and South Africa. They want to encourage cooperation and the building up of personal and professional networks for joint projects in an international environment.
All reports collected in this volume are meant for librarians, lecturers in information resource centres, universities and schools.
